From LJ app on phone

  • Feb. 22nd, 2009 at 1:36 AM
Snow...

Hmmm... I've never used this application to post on livejournal. Well, I'm sitting in bed and getting ready to re-read Meg Cabot's Airhead. I happen to love her books and I highly recommend this book. Anyway, I am also listening to tunes but on my phone because my iPod is charging. I sleep with music so I need it to get fairly charged.

Today was such a nice relaxing day. I live for the weekends. Needless to say, work has not improved. I work hard but I still just don't enjoy it. The environment is miserable. Plus, I work in the finance industry so the economic climate is stressing me out as well as the feeling that I am not doing right by my customers.

But anyway enough about work. I woke up late morning and proceeded to lounge around in my pajamas, drink coffee, read Weekend Jezebel (see Jezebel.com), and watch my Doctor Who DVDs. It was lovely. I did eventually shower and change into a hoodie and jeans. I also went grocery shopping with my mom. Among the good food I also bought apple pie. *grin*

I'm looking forward to tomorrow, even though I wish it could always be the weekend. I'll watch some more Doctor Who and the Oscars. Mostly, I want to see the dresses and I'm hoping Kate Winslet wins. I will also be playing my PSP. I need to catch up in Jeanne D'Arc!

I'm thinking of starting a Twitter account because I think it would be neat to keep my friends and family updated during the day. I can see it now "Making outbound calls... wish I could use our Internet to get on LJ."

More later!

Christmas Vacation

  • Dec. 28th, 2008 at 9:45 PM
Snow...
Since last Monday I had been on vacation from work, I decided to take Christmas week off. Unfortunately, my break is at a close now and I've got a case of Sunday Dread. Partially because it's the end of my holiday... after all, who likes to go back to work/school after break? But mostly because I hate my job and I'm really hating the fact that I have to go back. To borrow [info]candy__chan 's phrasing "I despise it."

I remember when I had to go back to school after a long break and truth me told, while I wasn't particularly happy I never hated it. I was usually excited because of one course or another. Even in my last semester of university (which came after a semester of horrible exhaustion), I still didn't hate it. There was an interesting sociology course I was looking forward to. That's probably what I miss most about school. I got to change it up. Tired of 3-4 months of certain courses? That's ok, you got to pick news ones and start fresh in Sept/Jan. Even during the actual day, you switched courses. You weren't doing the same thing all day long. Because truth be told, the only way a person can't get tired of doing the same thing all damn day long is if they really love it. I mean LOVE it. Otherwise, it becomes torture. Add a tense and stressful working environment to the mix and you have my particular situation.  Thus, Sunday Dread. The cure? Staying home but haha, I can't do that.

My break was fun though and it did relax me. While I won't lie and say I got 8-10 hours of sleep a night, I was able to operate on less than ideal sleep because I was enjoying each day and that's what I've found. People can get by on less sleep and be all right if they don't dread each coming day.

Monday: Woke up early, watching morning tv shows, had french toast, watched movies and went xmas shopping.

Tuesday: Woke up early again, watching morning tv shows, went to San Diego with my mother, went Christmas dinner shopping.

Wednesday: Got up extra early to finish Christmas shopping as I had procrastinated. Wrapped presents, helped out with dinner and enjoyed Christmas Eve festivities. Including opening presents at midnight. Endured Christmas family drama. I swear, if it's not Thanksgiving it's Christmas.

Thursday: Enjoyed prezzies and just relaxed. We got lots of rain. Watched television and read. Got online and found amazing black jacket of which I have been looking for and bought it with cool 'after' Christmas deals. Hehe.

Friday: Went to Target. Bought The Hulk. Watched that and Speed. Tried not to think of oncoming Sunday Dread.

Saturday: Had family over and that was very nice too. Beginning of Sunday Dread. Perhaps better named Saturday Dread?

Sunday (today): Woke up early, watched Doctor Who Marathon on BBC. Enjoyed day with my little brother. Spent whole day dreading tomorrow. Got some writing done.

In the midst of that, I read several books, watched more Doctor Who and signed up for [info]springwrite  at the urging (hee) of [info]candy__chan . This I am looking forward to because I so need writing discipline. Basically I need to get back into the swing of writing daily, which I used to do.

You know? I think 2008 was mostly a sucky year. For me and I believe for some other people as well. I'll go into more detail on that on my New Year's post. I plan on taking this Friday off as well. I had originally planned alonger break (more than fair considering the breaks ad sick days some of my coworkers have taken) but I ended up not doing so. But yes, 2008 was not a year that I'm thinking of with any wave of nostalgia. Here's to hoping better things are on the horizon.

Hee, it's snowing!! It's so cool. Granted it's nothing compared to the blizzards people get but it's snow in southern CA! Which is so rare!!
I know I'm acting like a kid. *laugh* [info]candy__chan is laughing at me I'm sure. But finally I got to text you that it was snowing!

Long time no write

  • Nov. 30th, 2008 at 11:58 AM
Oh!...Wait
So, it's been way too long since I've updated this journal or my ficcage (see above). Honestly? I've just been busy. Very busy with my job that pretty much sucks my desire to do anything productive when I get home. Did that last statement seem bitter? I didn't mean for it to be so obvious. Things have been rough for me the past few months and this past month has been the worst in terms of my job. I always said that I never wanted to consistently get up and feel miserable going to work. Unfortunately, that's how I feel. I know I don't have a right to complain when so many people are losing their jobs in this crap economy but that's how it is.

Not to be too much of a downer but yeah things have been sucking. In other news, I finally got some writing done! Yay! See the post above. What inspired me? The latest Satou and Takagi developments in Conan naturally. I've got other ideas and I am tentatively planning a fic dump for Christmas. Which means I need to get my butt in gear in regards to other stories that have been on the back burner.

Lately, I have been rewatching Escaflowne, which is a lovely series. I've trying to get back in touch with all my anime series. It helps me get into fic writing mode.

Yes, I did see Twiilight. Yes, I liked it. Yes, I've read the books and yes, I do like them. Don't judge me! Don't worry I'm not an insane fan and I don't think they as the be all and end all of all fiction, they are guilty pleasure books but I love 'em anyway.

I'm going to try and update this journal more often because I do need somewhere to vent. And since I can do this on my phone it helps. Work tomorrow. *sigh*

More later!

More Awesomeness...

So, this is another entry from my iPhone. I'm not trying to be braggy. I'm just in awe of everything I can do with it! Two LJ updates in less than a week? I'm just so busy now that typing this on my phone makes it convenient and I can keep up with Internet stuff during the day. Particularly during my lunch hour. Just watch... I'm going to end up typing my stories on this thing.

I've had to drive a lot more than normal because of work stuff so I'm even more tired than usual. What's nice is that I bought some new shoes recently. Mostly cute flats and it's letting me be more comfortable than with heels. I'm usually on my feet or walking fast and it can get tiring quickly. I can walk in heels fine but I know in the end I'll end up hurting my feet and eventually back. Plus, guys get to wear dress shoes with socks and girls are supposed to wear stilletos? Lame!!

I'm watching a horror movie about vampires with my mom. But I'm getting sleepy since I woke up earlier than normal.

I'm getting a haircut this weekend and retouching my highlights. Should be fun and a bit costly like all salon trips are. I'll try to remember to post a picture!

Gotta go. Too sleepy to function. Night and more later!

So, I'm typing this entry on my new iphone. It is so cool! Literally, I had been nervous about buying one but I love it. It's so amazing and I can do so much. I can see myself typing way more entries here than before. I don't have Internet access at work and now during lunch breaks I can actually see the Internet and post. Love at first sight.

Today, I did some major shopping for shoes but it's ok because I had been saving for awhile. I bought some cute mary jane style heels, some bronze flats, and these really adorable black suede flats with a slight wedge heel. The best part is that they are so comfy and I really need that for work.

I've been surviving off caffeine this week and today is no exception. I had to work a few hours today and I am beat. It's all I can do to stay awake right now. I am practically married to my job it pains me to say. But I always knew I had the makings of a workaholic. *sigh*

Anyway, this is a short entry to prove I still exist and I do miss the Internet and my friends and that hopefully this new super cool phone will help keep me up to date.

More later!!!

It's The End of The World As We Know It...

  • Jul. 2nd, 2008 at 11:42 PM
Mia and Michael
Ok, so it may seem like I've dropped off the side of the world...but I have not. I have merely been...working. Yes, I thought originally that I would be able to do daily updates. I was so naive. *headdesk*

Anyhow, I have now been at my job for almost three months and so far it seems like no one is going to be firing me anytime soon. I like my co-workers and actually one quit last week...truth be told, I didn't much like her. To be completely honest? She was driving me frickin' nuts so you can imagine my inner cheering when I got back last Wednesday from my Tuesday 'sick day' (a.k.a. mini-vacation) and found out she had quit. Ok, fine, maybe this makes me sound mean but I so do not care. Yes, she was that annoying.

As for the rest, for the most part it's enjoyable. My actual work is not a hot-bed of excitement and sometimes I work longer than I'd like but hey, they're not paying me too badly for a girl that didn't have much experience coming out of college. There is office drama, and office politics and office craziness...and yes sometimes it is a bit like the show The Office...but I think everyone's workplace is like that. No there is not a Jim Halpert in my office, but who knows? Maybe when we hire someone new we will. *drifts off to daydreams* Speaking of which, I did get a bit swoony because the cute british guy from another office called in today and I got to answer that phone call. Ok, I'm ashamed of this past sentence. I can't help it, I love british accents. *bows head*

I have nice work clothes and I am desperately on the search for dressy t-shirts that can be worn with slacks and heels and look smart for work. I have got some but I'm still on the look out. Oh! I also got highlights! I have never done anything to my hair so it's a nice change. I will post a pic soon, probably on friends-lock though.

I will be going to Comic-Con this summer! I am excited, even though I complained about it last year (it being my first year) but I've got a game plan this year.

I've been very into Doctor Who this past month and a half. Like really into it. It's my favorite show, right up there with 30 Rock. I highly recommend it to EVERYONE *nudges [info]candy__chan * It is that awesome.

I need to write some ficcage. I have a three day weekend so I will attempt to crank some out then. Finally bought this book Audrey Wait!, that I've been dying to read. It was so cute and funny and cool. Highly recommend.

What else, what else? I've seen Get Smart, very funny movie. Baby Mama was hilarious. Saw The Incredible Hulk, loved that too. Need to see Wall-E, seems like a very cute movie and I am a fan of Pixar. Oh, best movie of the summer so far for me? Iron Man!! If you have not seen this...don't wait for the dvd, go see it.

Um...I want the Darth Vader PSP. Heh...

That's all for now. Tired. Must sleep. More soon (hopefully!)

1st Day

Faeries
So, I started work today. It went really well. My co-workers are very nice and I had a good time. My dressy clothes didn't feel too dressy or constricting. *laugh* Probably because I was wearing pants.

Early Today: Arrived early to the office, fellow co-worker gave me crash course in taking payments and such. Other co-workers and almost-boss arrived. I trained with the most experienced worker for the morning. She said I was a very quick learner. Yay!

Lunch: Went to lunch at 1:15. I had an hour. I had a yummy sandwich from subway and orange juice. I had plenty of time to kill also. *laugh*

Later Afternoon: Returned from work, learned some more stuff, chatted with co-workers, went to boring meeting. Nobody's fault really, except for the corporate office's. Meeting went very long.

End of Day: Wrapped up paperwork, phone calls, etc. I helped co-workers with what they needed and pretty much 'watched and learned.' Almost-Boss took me aside at the end of the day to see how I had liked my first day and acknowledged that it had been a rather unconventional day since we had been so busy.

After work: Stopped at Starbucks. Bought iced coffee. Drove home and listened to podcast "The Bugle." It's hilarious, I totally recommend it. Two British comedians (John Oliver from The Daily Show is one) snarking about world events? Awesome.

Then I got home, deposited money in my bank account, and sent some paperwork out in the mail. I am now just resting here and using the internet as efficiently as I can! *laugh* I can't just blindly surf around anymore. I have to make sure I look at everything I like right away and not dawdle.

Anyway, I go in a little later tomorrow today. Nonetheless, I will be going to bed early. I have to get used to not being a night owl! I should also note that I cannot wait to get my paycheck. ^_~

Note to Self: Bring a book tomorrow. I can catch up with my reading during my lunch hour.

I'm going to have to force myself to fic on the weekends otherwise I will never do it! That's ok. It's about time I made myself disciplined, hehe.
All righty, there is my report for today. Two posts in two days? Amazing!

More tomorrow, hopefully!

The Real World...

  • Apr. 20th, 2008 at 10:28 PM
Mia and Michael
New episode of 30 Rock last thursday! The episode was called "Subway Hero." It was awesome! Did you all watch it? If you didn't, you can catch it online...there are a variety of sources. *wink wink nudge nudge*

Below are the results of my 30 Rock 'Which Character Are You?' quiz.

Why am I not surprised? *laugh*

So, a lot has happened in the last couple of weeks. I got a job! And I start tomorrow! I'm nervous! I imagine that this is a result of my lack of tears on the first day of kindergarten. As a result, I will be extremely nervous on my first day of work...at a real job, like for my career.

Basically, I am training to be a branch manager at a bank. In the meantime I will be learning all the stuff for it. It's a program that goes on for close to two years and then I am put in charge of my own branch. No...it's not at all daunting. Why would you think so? *falls over*

I have a good salary, great benefits, a relatively short commute and good hours. It's a really great job and I'm happy to have it even if I will miss the vacation I have enjoyed for the past seven months.

I also bought a car...last Thursday. It is a blue Toyota corolla xrs. I'm going to need my own car and I love it. So, in short on the outside I am ready to go.

In case anyone is wondering, I will not be leaving fandom or stop writing or anything. I definitely need my relaxing time. I will not have the luxury of being online anytime like I used to and let's face it, I rarely update ficcage as it is. I'll blend them both together.

I'm trying to picture it as going back to school, but I'm not allowed to wear jeans and a hoodie. *laugh* That's another shocker! I will dressing up every single day! It's insane.

Anyway, wish me luck everyone! I just might start updating this journal more often! Hopefully daily, with blurbs of work like.

My TV and Me

  • Apr. 2nd, 2008 at 1:48 AM
flying

So in the past few weeks I have watched a lot of television. Not couch potato, channel-surfing tv watching. No, purposeful intelligent television watching. That last sentence could be me trying to qualify my activity.

Anyway, I have watched all of The Office (US) in anticipation of the season returning on the 10th of this month. I had seen some of the episodes and loved them but now have seen them all and let me just say that the show is awesome. Not quite the awesome that is 30 Rock, but it is still pretty damn hilarious. Jim Halpert is so cute and funny. I also adore Dwight. I don't know why but he just cracks me up. "Bears, Beets...Battlestar Gallactica."

I re-watched Escaflowne and let me tell you that that last episode still packs a punch and gets me all emotional. I can't help it. It just does. It's the music, I swear. Yoko Kanno is amazing. I would love to be in the orchestra that performed those pieces. Just beautiful.

I watched all of Gundam Wing. My sister used to be obsessed with this show back when she was in middle school but this is the first time I've seen the whole thing. It was...entertaining, sometimes cheesy, sometimes lacking in any sort of logic and frankly I think the Gundam Pilots are overrated. Except Trowa. Trowa rocks. I also thought it was amusing that the most compelling characters were those over the age of 20. Also? I don't hate Relena. That's right, I said it. I think she's perfectly fine and while at times dim and misguided, she's a decent character. I also think most of the people that hate her have mad crushes on Heero Yuy. And before I get bombarded with hate mail, I said most. Not all, ok? Fee free to be part of the minority.

I just don't get all the love for his character and the shipping for the couple. The only scene they had that I thought was sweet was in the last episode when he drops off the teddy bear and card. It's not that I'm not prone to shippy-ness, I totally am. Afterall, I think Trowa and Noin are adorable. Yeah, I know. I might be the only person that thinks that.

Next up? Midori Days (not my idea) and Oh! My Goddess. I saw a couple episodes in the anime festival marathon at Comic-Con last year and I really liked it.  I also feel like rewatching the first 6 episodes of His and Her Circumstances. Best part of the series for me.

Last weekend, my sister went on a rant about The Sign Of Four. Particularly, that long chapter of back story towards the end. She thought it was pointless and she had skipped over the whole thing. When I told her I had read throught it (despite my boredom), she couldn't believe it. It cracks me up. Her words? "Yeah, I get it Conan Doyle...you were really into archeology and history but save it for another book, not The Sign of Four!" I have personally always preferred A Study in Scarlett.

I am currently addicted to the Build Your Own Bag feature on timbuk2. It's so much fun and I've created one that I really would like. It's roomy and would be professional enough for when I begin to work.

Finally...stolen from [info]ran_mouri82,  Am I bookish?

Time for Quality Television...

  • Feb. 14th, 2008 at 1:03 AM
Mia and Michael

Yay! The writer's strike has been lifted! Members of the Writer's Guild of America voted to end the strike and then in the coming weeks they will vote to ratify their new contract. It seems that they also got a fair share of what they were requesting so if the writers' think the deal is a good one it's fine by me.

This means new episodes of 30 Rock (my favorite show and if you aren't watching you SOOO should. It is that hilarious) and a return to written episodes of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report as well as the return of new episodes from other tv shows, production on movies can begin, etc. It looks like new episodes of 30 Rock will start on April 10th so I am EXCITED! Also Tina Fey is hosting SNL on the 23rd of this month, according to the NY Times. So that should be very fun.

For the past couple of days, the Force has been with me. That is I have been watching and re-watching my classic trilogy Star Wars movies. Granted, I'd seen most of the movies on television or rental and I was a fan but this was the first time I really sat and watched them all straight through and I LOVE them. I've seen all the new ones and no offense to fans of the newer, special-effects doped out films but they are far superior. I think my favorite is Empire Strikes Back but I do love A New Hope a lot too so...hmmm. I would like to say that Wookieepedia and I have become very close.

Also...this is very funny though I bet hard-core Star Wars fans that read my LJ have probably already seen it.

In other movie news, I have also plowed through the Godfather trilogy (Awesome!). Godfather II is my favorite and I can honestly say I would watch a four hour film solely on Vito Corleone, as played by a young Robert De Niro. He is also the reason I bought Taxi Driver for my mom. Excellent films and I recommend all of them.

I would also like to direct my fellow girl nerds (though guy nerds are welcome too) to this blog: The Parkbench. The place is fabulous, witty and just all around a lot of fun. I mean...there's an entry called "In Defense of Glasses"  (first page scroll down). What more could you want?

I have a great fic idea that I'm excited to get to though it'll probably have to wait till Friday. It's the first time in awhile that I've had a plot bunny I WANT to write as opposed to having to write. I already have the idea full-formed in my head and I've got to write down an outline.

The job hunt is still going on but I am looking into some part-time work that will help me get experience. I am also considering getting my credentials for an administrative position in the education system. Or possibly as a teacher. My friend was praising me on my teaching skills and well, you never know. They always say you never wind up doing what you expect, right? I'll see.

That's all for now. Tomorrow is Valentine's Day so...enjoy it I guess. ^_~ I wish all my single friends a nice day and hope that we all don't get ragged on by the constant question: "Why don't you have a special someone?" In all seriousness though, I hope everyone does have a nice day because it's easy to get down, but we should focus on the positive and watch a genre other than romance! *laugh*

More later. Possibly tomorrow!

Supporting the Writers

Stephen Colbert

I'm sure quite a few of you have heard about the writer's strike. If you're looking for more information or want to show your support, you can click the link above to find out more.

I just think it's important for a lot of people to realize that without these guys so many of our favorite shows wouldn't be airing. They deserve a fair contract and fair compensation for their work. The more you find out about this whole thing, the more you'll realize just how much producers and company heads are making and how little they want to give to the guys who make these shows possible.

I'll keep this post up for the remainder of the strike. ^_^

ETA: On February 12, 2008, the WGA voted to lift the strike. Congrats writers!
